Kunamokst: Uniting for a Brighter Future

What does it mean to make history?

Members of the new Kunamokst Lodge discovered the meaning at the Kunamokst Organizational Event, Sep. 5-7. Over 130 members of Tsisqan and Lo La’Qam Geela gathered together in fellowship and met new faces amidst a new family.

Friday evening set the tone for the event with lights, refreshments, music, and crackerbarrel– ice cream included! Arrowmen laughed and sang together, jump starting a weekend of fun.

Saturday had an air of business woven into it, but the priority remained on brotherhood. In the morning, the youth membership voted on the new standing rules, officially creating the new lodge. Then, the chapters split off to practice skits for the evening campfire.

After lunch, Reece Lewallen, the section representative, opened the floor for officer nominations. Members of both founding lodges showed interest in the inaugural officer positions. Once the business meeting concluded, volunteers helped set up and run a number of field games, including gaga ball, giant jenga, and cornhole.

Finally it was time to start the election process. The youth split away for a Q&A session with the new nominees, while the adults held their own meeting to prepare for the new lodge. The Q&A session started with more officer nominations, then transitioned into questions from lodge membership. With that, speeches and voting could begin.

Directed by the section representative, speeches started for lodge chief, and continued down the lodge leadership chain. For each position, each lodge got to distribute ten votes between the candidates. In the end, the following members were voted in to the inaugural lodge executive committee:

Lodge Chief – Ethan Green

Program Vice Chief – Emily K.

Service Vice Chief – Simon H.

Finance Vice Chief – Josie L.

Ceremonies Vice Chief – Linna B.

Communications Vice Chief – Zach L.

Administrative Vice Chief – Violet Hawkins

The event ended with a campfire, with members of each chapter contributing skits and songs. At the end of the program, a team of ceremonialists performed a rededication ceremony, to honor the merge of Tsisqan and Lo La’Qam Geela.

All in all, the weekend was a huge success. Two lodges became one, and friendships crossed farther than they had before. Kunamokst has come together, and its future looks bright.Surely that is making history: leaving a legacy to be remembered by all.
